‘Do you know a good café in Camber-’ ‘Cattivo’.
Whenever people ask me for a coffee recommendation in Camberwell, I am always locked and loaded and ready to shoot ‘Cattivo!’ before they’ve got to the well. Its pared back Euro stylishness and Genovese coffee make it a no-brainer.
I stumbled on this place a couple of years ago and it has never failed to impress since that first spinach omelette. I’ve gone back for a takeaway long black and a mini panettone. I’ve had a simple lunchtime pasta with peas and herbs and a San Pellegrino. It’s like couture cuisine – simple flavours and quality accessories sent out with effortless style.
And then there’s the coffee. Cattivo use Genovese’s Super Brazil to brew up a long black that is thick and velvety like mink and goes oh so well with a little pastry.
Cattivo has bodyswerved the tired-ass shabby chic of so many places in favour of minimalism that is spunky without being austere. You can feel the low-key glamour rub off on you. Makes you feel so photogenic.
